NCT has quickly become one of the most talked-about Kpop groups of recent years. NCT even topped various Kpop music charts. But, many fans are still confused about their concepts, like how many units and members are there. If you’re already a fan of NCT, of course, you knew all about these. But, for those who are new to Kpop, let’s get to know about the Kpop group NCT!

Who Is NCT?

SM Entertainment formed and introduced the Kpop group NCT in January 2016. NCT is short for ‘Neo Culture Technology.’ Their concept is that they are infinite members who are continuously shifting into various sub-units in various cities all over the world. As of now, NCT consists of 21 members. In fact, NCT is one of the most popular Kpop groups not just in Korea but also overseas. Every album release is topping Kpop music charts, and fans always want to get more Kpop news updates.

Who Are The NCT Members?

The NCT members include Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Kun, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas, Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, Jisung, Xiao Jun, Yang Yang, and Hendery.

NCT Sub-Units

This part is where many Kpop fans get confused. If there's one group called NCT, why are there so many other small groups called NCT? So, to clear the confusion, here are the sub-units of NCT.

NCT 127

NCT 127 is the unit representative of Seoul. The unit’s name represents the coordinates of the city. This sub-unit consists of nine members, namely Johnny, Taeyong, Jaehyun, Doyoung, Taeil, Yuta, Winwin, Mark, and Haechan. NCT 127 was first introduced in July 2016 with their single ‘Firetruck.’ Though they debuted as a seven-member unit before, during their comeback in December 2017, they appeared as a nine-member unit with ‘Limitless.’

NCT 127 released their first full-length album, ‘Regular-Irregular,’ in 2018. Then, they released the repackage ‘Regulate’ in 2019. Also, they released an EP called ‘We Are Superhuman’ in May of the same year.

NCT U

NCT U is like a rotational group that members change depending on the concept. In April 2016, the unit debuted with ‘The 7th Sense’ and ‘Without You.’ Upon debut, the unit consists of six members: Taeil, Jaehyun, Taeyong, Mark, Ten, and Doyoung, along with new members Jungwoo and Lucas. In 2018, the unit made a comeback with ‘BOSS,’ which featured members Taeyong, Doyoung, Mark, WinWin, and Jungwoo.

NCT Dream

In this unit, members are selected based on age. All members are under 20 years old. Once they pass that age, they will shift into another NCT unit. NCT Dream initially includes Mark, Haechan, Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung. As you’ll notice, Mark was part of all the mentioned units, but, he graduated from NCT Dream after the release of ‘We Go Up.’

WayV

WayV is NCT’s Chinese unit. This group is more focused on releasing Mandarin-language music. The unit consists of Kun, Ten, WinWin, Lucas, XiaoJun, Hendery, and YangYang. They debuted with NCT 127’s Chinse version of ‘Regular’ under the management of SM Entertainment’s Chinese label, Label V. Then, in May 2019, WayV released their first full-length album ‘Take Off.’

NCT 2018

This unit existed in 2018, as the name suggests. This unit consists of 18 members. NCT 2018’s first album was ‘NCT 2018 Empathy.’ This album featured songs from each NCT unit along with the group song ‘Black On Black.’

For sure, you’ll think that NCT is one unusual group among Kpop groups in South Korea. But, that’s really what NCT wants to imply to the Kpop fans. The members' diversity, unique group concept, as well as the skills and talent, made the group where it is today. NCT is not just an ordinary Kpop group but a global group that spreads Korean culture and music to the world.

As you get to know all of these basics, for sure, you’re ready to stan NCT and be part of the fandom, ‘NCTZEN!’
