How The Kpop Group BTS Influenced ARMY To Do Good

During an episode of RUN BTS, aired on V Live, Suga, also known as Yoongi Min, read his poem to the other members. He talked about how grateful he was for the success that they had achieved together. The members of BTS are composed of seven individuals. Despite being recognized for their international success, the group stayed true to their roots and emphasized being seven ordinary boys from South Korea. With their constant Kpop new updates and communication with their fans, ARMY’s are able to know more about the members and their personalities.

The term ARMY is an acronym that refers to the fans of BTS. It's a term short for ‘Adorable Representative MC of Youth.’ When translated in English, BTS means ‘Bulletproof Boyscouts.’ To clearly explain, the members are the boy scouts who need a bulletproof vest, and the ARMY serves as their shield. Brilliant idea, right? Ever since the band started, they have been outspoken about current social issues. Their songs have dealt with various topics such as mental health, consumerism, and education. In this blog, let me share how the members have inspired ARMY to do good. UNICEF ‘Love Myself’ Campaign One of the band's most notable causes is their partnership with UNICEF. Through their Love Myself Campaign, they urge people to end violence against teenagers and children. BTS spread the hope of making the world a better place through its music. Through this campaign, the group has brought greater awareness to the issue of violence against children. The money they raised came from various sources, such as the sales of their album ‘Love Yourself, donations from the members' own earnings, and donations from ARMY fans worldwide! Charitable Works According to the Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation, BTS member Suga gave over a hundred million won to support kids with cancer and leukemia. In fact, Suga made the donations under ARMY’s name to express his gratitude to the fan who always supported them. Also, in 2018, he donated 10 kilograms of Korean Hanwoo beef to 39 orphanages. In April 2019, it was reported that BTS Jimin donated 100 million won to the Office of Education of the Busan Metropolitan City. The donation was divided among the schools in the area, and it was used for student welfare. In 2018, Korean Animal Welfare Association reported that BTS Jin made a birthday donation to support animals in need. He donated over 320 kilograms of pet food. Due to his continuous donations, Jin was able to join the organization's Honor Club. Kichul Lee, UNICEF's secretary-general in Korea, praised his efforts. Since they do not publicize their personal donations, they do not publicly reveal what they do. In 2017, it was revealed that members of BTS personally donated over 10 million won to the victims of the Sewol Ferry disaster, which became a Kpop trending news at the time. Many fans praised them for being a good influence on the public. BTS’s Impact On ARMY Throughout their career, BTS members have shown their positive contributions to the world. So, to spread the good influence of BTS members, ARMY fans all over the world are also showing their support to the good cause that BTS wants to convey to the public through charity works and donations. ARMY fans donate to the various non-government organizations in their respective countries to help neighbors in need and victims of calamities. On top of that, ARMYs are also concerned about animal welfare, so various fan clubs from different countries reached out to animal shelters to donate. Since ARMY is one of the biggest fandoms globally, many fans participated in donations drives and charitable works to spread the love and hope that BTS wants to convey to the whole world. In addition, BTS always emphasized ‘Love Yourself,’ and this greatly affects how ARMY fans view themselves as a human being - that no matter who you are, what you are going through, and what your status in life is - you must love yourself so you can also love others. Since they started, the members of BTS have made a positive impact on the world by inspiring their fans to do good, like what they always did. So, what did BTS mean to the fans? How do we connect despite not all of us understanding the Korean language? During their performance at the Wembley Stadium, BTS RM said, “We truly speak the same language, I don’t mean English, I don’t mean Korean - eye to eye, looking at each other, dancing, vibing… that’s how we do it.” Are you also a BTS fan?
